The entire piece is about 11 1/2" wide by 10 1/2" deep by 20" tall. It was painted an old silver radiator paint, which has weathered over the years. This is a primitive home made rake with a great funky look. The handle and cross piece for the tines are are hand fashioned from hardwood. The tines are heavy metal spikes which were tapered toward the ends. These were driven into the wood crosspiece, which also has bolts put through it at the ends to prevent splitting and a wire support for strength and stability attached to the handle. The rake is strong and was used. The handle is smooth from use; the iron well oxidized; and the cross piece obviously worn from work. It was probably made in the early 1900's or late 1800's, has a great surface, and is 43" long by 14 1/2" wide by 6" deep. The price is $225.00. Inventory Code: CSKA. Primitive hand made rake ... This is a carved stand covered with snakes, frogs, and salamanders. It is made from diamond willow, with a soapstone base. The natural contours and ridges of the diamond willow have been carved into the animals, all very finely detailed with set in eyes and lines, spots, etc. They have beads for eyes. The match or candle holder (?) on top commemorates a river boat. It is incised with the words "F. Reichter, Square Bow, Flat Bottom, 1859 Minnesota River" and is supported by a small brass hose nozzle. The silver radiator paint is probably an older repaint from about the 1940's or 50's. The snakes, etc. all have a very good, older surface that is dark, patinated lacquer or varnish with fine crazing. We estimate the age at the early 1900's to 1920's, but it could be older. The stand is 44" tall, the base is 9 1/2" in diameter, and the condition is excellent. One bead eye is missing, there is one old, probably original break near the base, and a chip, also probably original, in the bottom of the stone. It is really a wonderful decorative piece. The price is $1150.00. Inventory Code: PHTS.
